Communications & Admin Internship

Devils River Conservancy (DRC) is a nonprofit whose mission is to preserve and protect the Devils River, its watershed, and essential springs located in southwest Texas. DRC is committed to promoting the significance of the Devils River and ensuring this uniquely pristine water resource remains a natural and scenic treasure for generations of Texans.  We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our team and gain hands-on experience in the conservation world. 

As a Communications & Administrative Intern, you will support our Austin-based staff with a variety of tasks related to communications and marketing, membership services, general administration, and event preparation. This role provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a small but fast-paced nonprofit while contributing to the success of our operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Communications and Marketing Tasks:

    • Create visual and written content for social media posts and co-manage social media calendar

    • Develop copy for e-blasts, including newsletter blurbs and event promotion

    • Generate digital and physical letters from provided templates

  • Merchandise Tasks

    • Conduct regular inventory counts to track stock levels and report discrepancies and maintain organization of merchandise

    • Prepare merchandise orders for fulfillment and maintain packaging inventory

    • Update records of addresses and order tracking numbers

  • Membership Management and Other Administrative Tasks:

    • Data Management:

      • Update and maintain digital membership records and email subscriber lists

      • Enter and update data in CRM database

      • Maintain mailing list database

    • Prepare cards and letters for individual mailings and bulk distributions

    • Other administrative tasks as they occur, including but not limited to:

      • Filing and scanning

      • Bulk printing jobs

      • Data entry and data management

  • Event Support:

    • Assist staff with various aspects of event preparation and implementation, including planning and logistics, marketing, and supplies management, as well as onsite tasks related to setup, execution, and takedown

      • The intern will also be expected to engage with event participants in a professional manner and share information related to Devils River Conservancy’s work

Required Qualifications:

  • College student or recent graduate (within 2 years)

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience managing and/or creating content for a professional social media account

  • Experience with any of the following software: Canva, MailChimp, Microsoft Office Products, Monday.com

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Administrative experience related to managing databases and other digital assets

Work Conditions:

  • This position is for 10 hours per week, split between Tuesdays and Thursdays with flexible times

  • The intern will work from DRC’s office in downtown Austin, though there will be some weeks where the intern may work from home and on alternative days if needed.

  • The position will involve some travel on weekends and evenings, averaging about once per month.

    • Transportation or a mileage reimbursement will be provided for any out-of-town travel.

    • Some events may be located at outdoor venues.

  • The successful candidate may begin on or after August 4, 2025 and the internship will conclude with the Fall Semester.

Benefits:

  • This is a paid internship with an hourly wage of $15.

  • The position does have flexibility in terms of work hours and location, and staff will work with the successful candidate to accommodate outside commitments related to their class schedule, extracurriculars, etc.
