Meet the DRC Staff

Romey Swanson - Executive Director

Romey joined the DRC as the new Executive Director in April 2023. With a wealth of experience in land, water, and wildlife conservation, Romey's addition has marked the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in the DRC's journey to protect and preserve the Devils River, its springs, and the surrounding lands. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to the role of private working lands in preserving fragile conservation values while helping broker public-private partnerships. With his expertise and passion, we look forward to Romey's leadership as we continue our mission to safeguard this precious natural treasure.

Dani Miller - Communications and Engagement Manager

Dani joined the DRC in September 2023 as its newest team member. She previously studied conservation social science as a graduate student at Texas State University and worked as a wildlife biologist at the Stiles Farm Foundation for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Her additional work experience in communications, member services, and event management provides a strong background in administrative roles, dovetailing perfectly with her natural resources management education. Dani became passionate about protecting the Devils River after coordinating a birding festival and birding youth camp through Birding with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, which involved trips to the river over multiple years. However, it only took her first visit, and first cannonball from Dolan Falls, for her to get hooked!

Brandi Orand - Finance Manager

Brandi joined the DRC this past August after looking for a way to leave the corporate grind behind in favor of a more purposeful role in the non-profit sector. She was thrilled to attain a position with the DRC where she can utilize her QuickBooks expertise in support of an organization that seeks to make a real difference. Brandi has six years of accounting experience, originally becoming passionate about her calling while working for three years in the construction industry. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she transitioned to operating as a bookkeeper, and ultimately decided to branch out into her own practice. Brandi moved from Seattle to Austin in 2021 and has enjoyed exploring everything the area has to offer. When not working or studying for her accounting degree, she loves spending time outdoors, especially around water, and is looking forward to experiencing the Devils River soon!
