Protect the Devils River Region—Submit Your Input by September 3
Speak Up for the Devils River—Your Input Needed Now
Dear Friends and Supporters,
A 370-mile high-voltage transmission line—the Howard–Solstice Project—is being planned to connect San Antonio to the Permian Basin. Some proposed routes pass directly through the Devils River region and its surrounding landscapes, placing one of Texas’s most iconic, ecologically intact, and culturally significant areas at serious risk.
To better understand the project, you can visit CPS Energy’s project page for general information or view AEP Texas’s interactive map to see proposed routes and the study area. These resources provide valuable context as you prepare your response.
The Devils River Conservancy (DRC) is taking action to protect what we treasure. We have developed a strategic response, we are coordinating with landowners and partners, and now we are asking you to take action.
While landowner input is essential to this process, anyone who cares about the Devils River and the surrounding West Texas and Hill Country landscapes is encouraged to speak up. Whether you’ve visited, paddled, hunted, or admire what makes this place so special, your voice can help protect one of Texas’s last truly wild places.
What You Can Do (by Sept. 3):

Why It Matters
The Devils River region is home to:
The most pristine river in Texas
Over 140,000 acres of conserved private lands
Critical military training airspace serving Laughlin Air Force Base
Some of the last unfragmented wildlife corridors in the state
Designated International Dark Sky Sanctuary lands with exceptional night skies
World-renowned Lower Pecos Indigenous rock art and cultural heritage sites
A transmission corridor through this landscape could fragment habitat, destroy viewsheds, open the door to incompatible industrial development, and threaten the very values that make this place so important.
Texas will grow—but we must grow with principles. Infrastructure development should never come at the cost of irreplaceable landscapes.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the Devils River.
Let’s make our voices heard.
Sincerely,
Romey Swanson
Executive Director
